Operation Spark is a New Orleans non-profit changing lives by rapidly preparing low-opportunity individuals (low-income individuals, disconnected youth, vets, and more) for high wage employment in the software industry.
Our job placement is 100% and our graduates are earning salaries between $45K and $120K. Running all day Tuesday May 3rd, GiveNOLA day allows people everywhere to help deserving non-profits gain funds to do great work.

Why you should care
Tens of thousands are unemployed and underemployed in New Orleans (and millions more nationally) while most tech companies are hurting for software talent. For every job Operation Spark places in software development, 4.3 other jobs are created or sustained across all economic sectors, from teachers, doctors, cooks, lawyers and construction. A Great Year
On top of training and placing our graduates in high wage software jobs, Operation Spark had a fantastic year. Here are some highlights:
- President Obama and the Mayor of New Orleans wrote mentions our students into their speeches
- Our student received the White House's Champion of Change award and other students have been invited to/attended events at the White House 3 times
- We joined the White House's TechHire Initiative and taught New Orleans' Police Chief how to code at the Summerware hackathon
- We partnered with the fantastic Hack Reactor, Google, Educate Now!, Points of Light, and 4.0 Schools
- The President decided to come study at Operation Spark!
The Year Ahead
Operation Spark's High School to High Wage program allows students to begin studies with Operation Spark while still in high school. Upon graduating from high school, students step straight into the 3 month Immersion program, then immediately into a career in software. With serious job skills, these young adults can pay their way through college, work their way up in the industry, or create the next big startup!
